I am Juha Makkonen, an illustrator from Helsinki (Juha derives from the same root as John). Mostly, I do illustrations for role-playing game publications and projects. Inspired by masters like Joseph Clement Coll and Franklin Booth I especially enjoy pen-and-ink and I am striving for a painterly line with which to explore the sense of place, culture, and realistic strangeness.

In addition to a fair number of character portraits, I’ve done illustrations for gritty low-fantasy worlds such as Hârn (Kelestia Publications) and Glorantha (Moon Design) as well as sci-fi settings like Space 1889 (Uhrwerk Verlag).
